the girl next door
'The Girl Next Door' was an alias used by M&S; the companion project of The Guy Next Door. Both projects were originally released on the Strictly Rhythm label in 1996, with the tracks "Deeper" and "Justify". In 2000, M&S re-used this alias for 'Salsoul Nugget', a funky house cut composed of replayed samples taken from "Everyman" by Double Exposure (1976) and of "Hit and Run" by Loleatta Holloway (1977). The title is a reference to Salsoul Records, the label from which both tracks originally come from. After a significant success in clubs, the track was re-released commercially in 2001 with new vocal mixes performed by Natasha Brice. Although the sample of 'Everyman' sounds like "If you wanna right the rumble with me babe all through the night", the original lyrics, once looped, makes no sense ("If you wanna / that the road would be paved all smooth and nice...").
