However, a fire once gave me a good lesson and made me correct my shortcomings of carelessness. 我做什么事情都心不在焉，我母亲警告我这样的危险性，但是我却置若罔闻，然而，一场火灾教训了我，让我改正了粗心的毛病。 One day my parents were out so I decided to prepare lunch for myself. As I was cooking in the kitchen, the telephone rang. I went to answer the call immediately. It was my close friend, Linda. We were talking and talking on the phone when the fire alarm sounded. I ran back to the kitchen, finding the room was full of smoke and the food was badly burnt. I quickly turned off the gas, opened all the windows, and then went out of the house. To my surprise, two fire engines were outside my house. One of my neighbors called the fire brigade. I told the firemen it was my careless cooking that caused the heavy smoke. I was quite a shamed of myself and made up my mind to be careful with whatever I do from then on. 一天我父母出去了，我决定自己动手。我正在厨房做饭时，电话响了，我立即去接电话，是我的好朋友琳达，我们正谈着，突然警报叫了起来，我跑回厨房，发现里面都是烟，炉子上的饭也烧焦了。我赶快关闭煤气伐，打开所有的窗户，并离开房间。我惊讶地发现两辆救火车在外面，我的邻居报了警，我告诉消防员是由于我的粗心造成了这些烟雾。我羞愧难当，暗暗决心，从此无论做什么都要小心仔细。 49. The Earth Day 世界地球日 April 22th is the earth day. Our school organized a lot of activities to improve our environment. 四月二十二日是世界地球日，我们学校组织了许多活动来改善我们的环境。 In the morning some of us planted trees. Some picked up rubbish in the neighborhood or parks. Most of us also gave money to organizations that help to save forests and endangered animals. Several groups of the students went to the streets, telling the passersby how seriously our earth is damaged. Many rain forests are disappearing. A lot of wild animals are killed. 在上午，一些学生去种树;一些学生去附近的公园捡垃圾;我们大多数人都给帮助保护森林和濒临灭绝动物的组织捐献了钱;好几组学生还到大街上，向过往的行人宣传我们的地球现在已经被破坏得多么严重，其中，热带雨林正在锐减，许多动物正在被杀害。 By doing all these we would like everybody to know that we have only one earth and we should protect it. Saving the earth is saving ourselves! 通过做这些活动，我们是想让每一个人都知道：我们只有一个地球，我们应该保护它。保护我们的地球就是保护我们自己! 47. My First Day at Tsinghua Subordinate High School 入清华附中第一天 It was on a warm autumn day that my elder brother and I walked into Tsinghua Subordinate High School. The strong dry wind was quite different from that in my hometown, which is usually mild. 一个温暖的秋日，我和哥哥走进清华附中。强劲干燥的风与我家乡潮润的风相当不同。 After registering in the Senior Section, a teacher took me to my dormitory. I put my luggage on the pointed bed, and looked around. 在高中部注册后，老师带我去宿舍。我把行李放在指定的床上，环视了一下房间。 The room was not big but clean, with two tables and three bunk beds. Soon two of my roommates arrived too. They were glad to meet me and told me a lot about the school life there because they were already junior students of this school. 屋子不大但很干净，有两张桌子和三张双层床。不一会儿两个同屋也来了，见到我他们很高兴，告诉我许多学校的事情，因为他们本来就是清华附中初中部的学生。 We were busy the whole morning talking and arranging things. I got acquainted with my new classmates very soon. 整个上午我们都忙着谈话和整理东西。 My brother and I went downtown in the afternoon and walked around. Although I was quite unwilling to say good-bye to my brother, he had to leave for my hometown in the evening. At dusk, we went to a restaurant for our supper. Sitting face to face, I suddenly realized I had grown up and I had to look after myself and live independently. 下午我和哥哥去城里转了转，尽管我极不愿意哥哥离去，但是他晚上就得返回家乡。傍晚当我们在一家餐馆面对面吃饭时，我突然意识到，我已经长大了，我得自己照料自己，学会独立生活。 When I walked around on campus after dinner, I noticed many students were going to their classrooms to study. The Dog Ah Fu 小狗阿福 One day my parents went to work in the fields, and my little sister and our dog, called Ah Fu, went with them. While my parents were working, my sister ran along the river and Ah Fu followed her. She found a flower in the water and was trying to pick it when she fell into the river. 一天，爸爸、妈妈去地里干活，妹妹和我们家养的小狗阿福也跟着去了。当爸爸和妈妈干活时，妹妹沿着河奔跑玩耍，阿福跟在她的后面。妹妹发现河里有一枝花并打算拣起花，不小心掉到了河里。 Ah Fu barked to my parents and then jumped into the water. When my parents ran to the river, they saw Ah Fu carrying my sister to the bank. My father, full of thanks, patted Ah Fu on the head. It was brave Ah Fu who saved my sister. Animals are friends of human beings sometimes. We should cherish them. 阿福先对着我父母吠叫，然后跳进河里。当父母赶到河边时，看见阿福正带着妹妹游向河岸。爸爸充满感激地拍拍阿福的头。正是勇敢的阿福救了妹妹。动物有时是人类的朋友，我们要爱护动物。
